Kandinsky and his artful world

Wassily Kandinsky! Did it ring a bell? Since my recent posts have been about synesthesia, I am going to share one of the expressionist artist who is also diagnosed by this disease. But he had make full use of this disease to be successful in the art industry! Kandinsky in whom musical tones elicited specific colours, was a tone-colour synaesthete. He used his synesthesia to inform the artistic process by capturing the visual equivalent of a symphony on canvas.

He was the father of abstraction. When he was younger, he said he had heard peculiar hissing sound when mixing different coloured paints in his childhood paintbox. He achieved pure abstraction by replacing the castles and hilltops towers of his early landscapes with stabs of paint or, as he saw them, musical notes and chords that would visually "sing" together. Isn't it amazing!!!! Lets look at a few more of his works.

Understanding synesthesia

Lets go deeper into synesthesia! I think people with synesthesia are unique as they have extra sense, unlike the rest of us. Colours usually paint a better picture of things and its good to add colours to our dull life! Hey, me too, I would want to read newspapers (which is usually grey and dull) in colours! Being a lazy reader I am.. hahaha. However did you know that synesthesia people do have their disadvantage?

It is such a pity that most of them are actually bad at maths! They find it extra challenging to add numbers which are, to them, mean, to nice numbers which caused a certain level of anxiety. Synesthesia patients do not want to expose nice numbers with mean numbers, in any way.

Personal bias is another disadvantage. Graphem synesthesia patient find certain numbers/letters to be pretty or soothing while the rest being ugly. Some of them have Ordinal Linguistic Personification (OLP) synesthesia, this extends to the personality of letters! 'A' might be friendly and 'D' might be sullen and rude. They make their preference accordingly. It is sometimes challenging for them. When meeting new people, person with sound-colour synesthesia may be naturally drawn to someone with pretty voice and avoid those with sharp and glaring voice. WAIT!!!!!! They are not judging anyone or being bias towards the people around them as they can only limit who they make social interaction with due to their disease.

Synesthesia meaning

It is a condition in which the stimulation of one sense automatically evokes perceptions in an unstimulated sense. Example? The sound of the bell trigger seeing the colour blue!

When you eat a chicken, does it feel pointy and round? Do you get confused about appointments because Tuesday and Thursday have the same colour? When you read a newspaper or listen to someone talking, do you see a rainbow of colours? IN THAT CASE, YOU HAVE SYNESTHESIA!

One theory suggests children learn to associate numbers or letters with colours, possibly to aid memory. Most common form of synesthesia involve written words, letters, digits and/or auditory stimuli! They find it hard to account they're experience being diagnosed with it.

Usually, 3 is pink (sometimes yellow/pink/red) and truck is always blue. This disease is harmless and is rare to occur. How rare? One in 200 people. They have good memory for phone numbers and security codes due to colour.

Here's their chart!

Forced connection #7

When a phone rings, what do you do? You pick it up, yes. Unless the caller is annoying you. Hahaha. When its ringing, isn't there a forced connection to the people present? They are FORCED to pick up the call. There is a strong connection between ringing and the people. So basically I discovered this few days back when my house phone was ringing. I forced myself to pick it up cause I was kind of lazy. Then, I realise the ringing sounds actually alert us to pick it up, causing forced connection!

Forced connection #6

I was trying very hard to find forced connection. Then I came to realize some things around us are an example of forced connection. Like, magnetic doors. When you close the door, there is this forced magnetic kind of thing pulling the door to close it. You just had to trigger the door by pushing when you're opening and the door will do its job by closing it for you. When its closed, you can't open it just like that. You have to press this switch on the wall next to the door and then you can open it. There is certainly a forced connection! First, between the door and the wall. Second, between you and the door.

Forced connection #5

Recently we did 3d in class and yes I CAN RELATE TO IT WELL! 3D drawing actually has a strong forced connection between the viewer and the artwork itself. If the artwork was from a well-known artist and people usually know the common meaning behind his artwork, then its possible that the artwork & artist himself evoked a forced connection with the viewer! The viewer will get engaged to the artwork and start questioning the skills, the meaning and such. Also, they will start to see the drawing at many different angles. I mean, come on, who doesn't fantasize 3D drawings! Lets have a look at some 3D drawings.

See, didn't I tell you so? There is this feeling of staying connected to the drawing for a while. Your eyes are fixated to the object isn't it? Well yeah. That's a forced connection.

Forced connection #4

Have you ever been in the Art Science museum? The architecture in Singapore are all brilliant. I mean, just look at Esplanade and Marina Bay Sands! Anyway, I have been to Art Science museum for the titanic exhibition last year, for the Harry Potter exhibition, the Lego and Andy Warhol exhibition. I was really amazed and stunned because..........the museum is design in a shape of a hand? And how is it that, when we are inside the museum, it seemed like we are walking fine on a flat piece of land? And we don't have to travel according to the shape of the museum! I really think its an amazing work of art. Art is everywhere and I believe whenever something is strange or creative, that definitely is an artwork. So, this is a forced connection! I really love the shape of the museum and how we are perfectly walking fine inside.

Forced connection #3

Have you heard about the latest invention by the Apple company? IPHONE 5S!!!!!!! I personally think the new model of iPhone has the best functions. The battery span is said to be longer than usual. And oh! The main highlight that I would like to share is, it is the first phone to have the THUMB CENSOR ON THE HOME BUTTON! Its a forced connection. The owner of the phone is the ONLY person who can access to their phone. Through this, isn't it safer because everyone's thumbprint is different. This invention is creative. Well done, Apple.

Forced connection #2

Portable chargers are forced connections, don't you think so? It is the recent invention and most iPhone users in Singapore have been buying it. Reason being, it is easy to use anywhere and anytime without having to find a plug in. You just have to connect it to your phone and its charging! So when you're in need of it outside, you probably wouldn't run out of battery. I strongly encourage people to buy this because of our habit of using phone for almost more than half the day!

Forced connection #1

Fish eye and wide eye lens is popular among us. Fish eye gives a cool touch to our pictures and the wide eye lens to take a landscape of surroundings! I think the person who invented this is creative as we now don't have to take a few pics of our surrounding and make it into a collage. Also, the fish eye gives a touch like what we see in our peep hole of the door of our house! Hahaha. It is nice and most teenagers have been using this.

Wide eye lens.

Fisheye lens.

Maggies are the best food of all time, though its unhealthy. Its the fastest food to be cooked. But it will always stain my shirt!!!! Its worst if you're wearing white. The gravy is delish and you would usually savour every drips of it. I found this on 9gag! Slightly amusing but hey you wear it at home, who would even bother to judge?! Hahahaha.

It is easier and this prevents the gravy from staining your beautiful newly bought clothes. No need for napkins or tissues! If you have a kid or younger siblings at home, this would make them laugh. Making people laugh wouldn't bring harm!

Out of the box idea #6

When your mother fries chicken for the whole family for lunch and you can't resist the smell of it so you wanted to taste it as quick as possible because you're craving for it......but ooops...its HOT. Its burning, you might injure your fingers. I can't resist fried foods too! But the time to wait for it to cool is torturing for fried food lovers!!!!! Then?! Came this invention, of plastic handlers for hot finger foods or fried foods. It is much easier for fried food lovers now to eat and peel their chicken without burning or injuring their fingers! Shall get this piece soon when I see it.

Out of the box idea #5

In secondary school science, we did learn about light; reflecttion and refraction. We are exposed to different examples of it. Of course, we have came across an example about ambulance! The word ambulance is written as "ecnalubma" so that when cars saw the ambulance behind them through their side mirror, it will be seen as "ambulance" itself. Its an idea of science, which is also an art in my eyes. Reflection is amazing.

Out of the box idea #4

What should you do when you're late for school/work/appointment but you're the type who will never leave the house without breakfast?! Or at least a cup of hot milo/tea/coffee/holicks/oats? How do you sip your beverage if its hot and you're rushing? Quickest solution is to put 4 ice cubes in your drink but it won't taste as nice, right? Another way is to not put hot water, instead just medium hot water when making ur drink. NOT ANYMORE!!!! Look at this idea of mugs. Its brilliant.

See! Its a solution to your problems. Now you can rush and do other things like packing your stuff and such while this mugs do the job for you to stir and keep your beverage to cool for awhile! Now, you will never skip breakfast befor leaving the house.

Out of the box idea #3

When you get your final year result, how do you celebrate it? BY ORDERING PIZZA! When you won an award in school, how do you celebrate it? BY ORDERING PIZZA! When your sister is expecting a baby, how do you celebrate it? BY ORDERING PIZZA! Ordering canadian pizza is a norm to all but IS IT EASY FOR YOU TO SLICE YOUR PIZZA?! I don't think so. Some people would get a bigger triangle, and some gets a smaller portion of it. It isn't fair so this calls for another creative solution!

It is a cutter specially made to cut a cake or better, a pizza. It is in a triangular shape which means everyone would get an equal portion so LESSER FIGHTS! Hahahaha. Restaurants should serve this cutter soon!

Out of the box idea #2

This is specially designed for all the mothers out there, I guess? I'm sure most women have had their lazy days where they wouldn't have the mood to clean up the house but hey DON'T WORRY!!!! This brilliant invention will definitely make your house a little more cleaner without even putting so much effort to it.

Well, yeah, you can walk around the house and continue with your other tasks. And then....TADAAAAA! Your house is clean with those slippers with a mop as a base. This can also help expectant mothers to not tire themselves much too!

Out of the box idea #1

Have you ever experienced a bad cold? A TERRIBLE RUNNY NOSE WHEN YOU'RE IN PUBLIC?! Well, personally, I have been in this situation and trust me its annoying. On bad days, there are no tissues with me. Can you imagine I had to make that irritating sound of my phlegm down my throat and mucus in my nose!!!!! Anyway there is a solution by the ever most talented Japanese people!

Its undoubtedly amusing to see anyone with this in public but who knows one day, everyone would probably wear this to town. Its healthy to laugh everyday so why not!

Mindmapping #7

Gym

Gym is my second home. But it being my second home, didn't even make me notice the different grouping for equipments! So, recently after the mindmapping lesson, something lit up in me and made me realise that even in the gymnasium, such things are also classified. For instance, the treadmils, bicyles and hill jogging equipments would be on one side. The chest machine would be on one side, then the arm section (biceps and triceps), followed by shoulder press machine and the back machine then the legs section including leg curl, leg press and leg extensions, then comes the abs and torso section. Apart from machines, the weights/barbells/dumbbells section is on the other side of the gym. It is hence easier for the people in the gym to carry on with their workout without having to jump from one end to another to complete a particular body part session.

Mindmapping #6

English Premier League

Better known as epl! WHO DOESN'T LOVE FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! While I was watching Arsenal's match the other day, my eyes were nailed on the tv's screen when it showed the table of the teams. And again, aha! Another idea striked that even in football, classification is important. The table shows the viewers the number of matches won, lost, draw, the goal difference and the total points attained by the team. Also, the most top would be the team in the first position, followed by second position and the list goes on. Isn't it amazing?! This helps the football fanatics to find out more about the team's progress even better without referance to the internet or newspaper!

Mindmapping #5

Examination

I've took examinations in primary and secondary school and I didn't even bother to care how are we all arranged and how are the paper collected! Hahaha. As I think back, I think the idea of assigning a register number for each and everyone in the class is a great idea. Girls would usually come first before the guys! And not to forget, the tables and chairs are also grouped neatly. It can sometimes be 7 rows and 5 columns or more when in the hall! By grouping us, it is easier for teachers. Little did I realise these things back then.

Mindmapping #4

Golden Village

I always checked the movie listings and showtimes online. It was only recently that I realised the website also grouped the movies together with the branches. You just have to click the movie you want to watch and the website will list down several branches available along with the timings and its easier this way isn't it? Not only GV, but Cathay also shows the same classification as well, making it easier for online booking!

Mindmapping #3

Yellow page

I remembered how yellow page was the savior when I was younger when my family wanted to clarify something about the hotel but they didn't know the hotline for the hotel and internet wasn't popular back then so they searched in the yellow page. There are a lot of important numbers in the yellow page and it is also grouped accordingly! Taxi numbers, hotel numbers, anything. And also, there is a content page for page number for a particular thing that we need to find. It is great as we can infer to the book at a shorter timing!

Mindmapping #2

DVD shop

Ever been to video ezy? Or any dvd outlets? Recently I went to video ezy and SNAPPP! I got another idea for mindmapping. I've came to realize that I never find it hard to find the type of DVD that I wanted to rent/buy there! Why? Cause of the intelligent classification of types of DVD. For example, there are the Indian movie section, hindustan movie section, english movie section, malay movie section, japanese movie section, korean movie section, kids nursery rhymes section, songs/albums section. It really made our life easier as we are able to find the DVDs without assistance (most of the time)!

Mindmapping #1

H&M

Learning about mindmapping opens up my idea of classifications. I am now able to further deepen my knowledge in this and realise that most of the things around me are grouped accordingly! It make things much more neater and approachable. So h&m, being my favourite outlet to window shop at, somehow, have different ways to classify their clothes. Look!

There are different sections. Mens, women, ladies, lingerie and the kids on different levels. I think by grouping, life's easier for shoppers and also the staff working there.

Brainstorm #7

How to send a message?

1) Sticky notes on the fridge for the family to see it. Or even buy a whiteboard for the family to write down immediate message!

2) If you want a girl's number, write on a tissue and just pass it to her. Offer it to her and she will definitely notice the message written.

3) Throw a stone into your friend's window and show the different letters n form it into a word (letters from yr little brother's toys)

4) Write letters and throw it across the class when the teacher is not looking!

5) Olden ways to communicate is by fires. If there was a threat of invasion, the defenders would make fires on top of the hills or mountains. The first fire would lit up and when the people on the next hill saw the fire, they would lit up theirs to show the other people, until the leader of the army sees it! Its interesting, though.

Brainstorm #6

How to save money?

I'm always thrifty when it comes to spending my money on clothes, ESPECIALLY SHOES. I have more than 7 pairs and trust me, I have not worn some of them. Whenever I'm broke, I tend to save my money and divide them well throughout the week. It works!

1) Keep your money in something. Something which can only be open once, and then it will be destroyed. Meaning, we have to force break that something to get those money. Example, a glass piggy bank. Those without keys or lock. Just a slot in section! By this, we would always wait till the real "rainy days of life" arrive to destroy open the bank.

2) If you're given $10 a day, make it a point to keep $5 or $6 at home depending on your daily budget. It works because you have no choice but to spend within your budget. No cheating!

3) Bring meals to school. Home cooked food are much delicious. As for me, my girlfriend prepares those scrumptious meals!

4) Get an adult to hold your money for you if you're the kind who couldn't resist the temptation to spend it.

5) Tell yourself. The more you spend that week, the lesser money you will have for shopping at the end of the month. If you go within your budget, restrict yourself from shopping/buying things.

Brainstorm #5

How to scare the freaking hell out of someone?

Everyone loves doing this to EVERYONE. It can be to your friends, teachers, schoolmates, uncle along your corridor, family, relatives, neighbours, officers, ANYONE!

1) When you're in the lift with anyone, be it your girlfriend/siblings etc (for my case, its always best to do this to my girlfriend), SCREAM OUT LOUD TILL IT HURT THEIR EARDRUMSSSSS!!!!! If they are the type who can't stand such loudness (like my gf), they will get scared and cry cause its a SUDDEN sound!

2) Pull a prank! Anything. Hid a lizard/frog/hamster underneath a towel and ask ur friend to remove the towel. Lie to them and say you're going to make a magic trick! HAHAHAHA IT WILL SCARE THEM TO SEE SUCH THING ON UR PALM!

3) Wear a mask. "the scream" mask is the scariest of all masks, I must say! Or maybe just dress in full white with chilli sauce stains and stand outside your sibling's room! For it to be scarier, scratch their room door. Hahaha.

4) Call them at 2am and mumble some mantra! It will for sure scare them!

5) Or you can call at 2am and tell them you're in the hospital in a critical condition! Or you met with an a accident. Those who really care tend to be scared, frightened and alarmed!

6) Classic. Hide behind the door/wall and BAHHHHH at anyone who walks past. This prank never gets old.

7) Pretend you're possessed when you're on your way home with your friend!

Brainstorm #4

How to kill a paperman?

1) Burn him along with papers! Its the hungry ghost season too, remember?

2) Stab him. There's no reason for him to be alive after doing that, hahaha.

3) This term "tickle to death". You can try!

4) Push and drown him in the river!

Brainstorm #3

How to annoy your roommate?

I've experienced this before during my secondary school time when we went overseas to Venice! I had no choice but to sleep with this annoying classmate of mine. Being the irritating and mischievous boy I am, here are some of the things I did!

1) Socks come in a pair. Meaning, there are two in each set. So hide one of it, hahaha. Hide it behind the bin, in between bed sheets, in the drawer or worst, in the FRIDGE!

2) Be the disgusting person you are for a day or two. Maybe they will get too annoyed till they request for a new roommate! Hahaha. Maybe burp loudly and just mess up the the room.

3) Set an alarm at 2am in the morning. Wake him up and tell him that its already 8am and you both are late to meet the rest at 8.30am! They will rush, without checking the time, well this works 90% of the time. They will get very very very annoyed after BATHING, RUSHING, CHANGING TO THE ATTIRE cause you are there sleeping soundly!

4) If he had bought snacks for the night, grab and have a bite. If possible, just finish it up. Sharing is caring remember ;)

5) Wake up and sleepwalk next to him and mumble a few mantra to scare him away!

6) Stay in the toilet a little longer if he is waiting for you outside. He will definitely get annoyed. But....... There is nothing he can do HAHAHA

7) Sing loudly. He will get annoyed and will pray hard to leave the room as soon as possible hahahaha

Brainstorm #2

How to make a kid cry?

I am one of the culprit to such acts. I love to try all sorts of ways to make them tear but hey, don't worry, I'm soft at heart!

1) When they are playing with their game console/toys, snatch it away immediately and run!!! They will chase after you, yes, but as an adult, we will tend to run faster. When they find it hard to catch you, they'll get annoyed and irritated. Then, they will start crying.

2) Threaten! BEST WAY EVER! If they are the type that hardly eat their vegetables or certain portion of their meal..... THREATEN THEM! Say things like "eat it else, something might haunt you at night if they knew you didn't eat your meal" This really works as my younger sister starts to eat and finish up her meal after several times crying over the thought of a monster haunting her! Hahahaha.

3) Tease them no matter what. Make fun of them! When they are dancing, tease them and say they're dancing like a chicken. Or if they are acting cute (all kids do this), just stick your tongue out and tease that they're not! Or if they are singing, just close your ears and pretend to irritate them. They will cry after having to face your actions towards their doings!

4) When they are watching their favorite channel, grab the remote control and change the channel! They will cry and start to throw trantum.

Brainstorm #1

How to get rid of a cockroach?

There are many approach to this. I can't deny the fact that I'm quite afraid of these creatures, what more, flying ones! So I came up with different possible ways. I tried some, full proof to be effective!

1) Spray! Shelltox works best and to see these little beings being giddy actually cracks me up. Hahahaha well that was evil.

2) An amusing way is to JUMP AND LAND ON IT. Hey why do school train us for standing board jump, am I right? It serves for a purpose! Hahaha.

3) A gore way is to burn it!

4) Let the cat do the job. Let your cat catch it, hahahah well cats love this.

Fine arts artist from the 19th century

Gustave Courbet.
Impressionist/Realist.

In most of his paintings, he aimed to depict the customs, ideas and appearance of lifetime using any scenes from everyday life in a frank and rough style by applying direct observation to his subject selection.

Light and movement were the major factors in impressionist composition, just like The Calm Sea (above).

Vincent Van Gogh

The man who cchanged the way how a flower should look like.

Van gogh's sunflowers uses an impressive range of techniques, from tiny pointillist dots to thick sculptural strokes. He also break some of the cardinal rules of painting from the time.

The colour theories followed by the impressionists dictated that to intensify colours, one should place opposing colours next to each other.

Van gogh experimented with putting a sunflower against a blue background but his later versions have yellow flowers in a yellow vase on a yellow table, against a yellow wall and yet the picture seems to radiate light.

He was not trying to make an exact copy of reality in his paintings. He did not use colour merely to imitate nature but to express emotion.

Michaelangelo

Michaelangelo.

He, who lives with a philosophy of dual allegiance to nature and beauty, the importance of the idea, freedom to break rules and the role of sculpture as a model for his art.

In the sculpture rule, it had always been that a man should be 8 heads tall. That is the precise measurement from top of the head to the chin which is used to establish the line of pectoral muscles, the navel, the groin, halfway to the foot and finally to the ground.

This tend to create monotomy of design and also fell into the mistake of thinking that there was an 'ideal' set of human proportion.

Michaelangelo was indifferent to proportion. Eventhough he was a realist, he used proportion as he saw fit. While women were supposed to be 7 heads high, he made it 9.

The purpose of elongating figures was for the effect.

Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol.

He was interested in institutional collecting. Andy revolutionized art exhibition practices with Raid The Icebox. The tittle of the show was a pun referring to many museums' cold storage areas, filled with objects that the public could not see.

He created a thoroughly unconventional set of displays. Paintings were placed on the floor, leaning against walls and some are stacked up. While the shoes were exhibited in a large cabinet, free to be touched.

This radical display broke the institutional rules about the display and value of certain objects over others in a museum environment.

Usually in museums, attention was given to all kinds of objects. He have successfully displayed the fashions of culture along with the art.

A group of french artist (Impressionists)

The impressionists broke the rule of conventional art when they were expected to abide to the rules that had been followed for centuries. Who are these impressionists?

They are a group of young talented artist who came together with a purpose of creating a different art. They painted something they saw for the first time- their first impression of things.

Initially their art was considered so different that it was mocked by art critics and was not accepted by the Academie. Artist under the influence of the Academie had edges lines and smooth texture on canvas, showing no brush strokes at all.

Their canvas were usually dark coloured and colours were unadventurous, creating a dismal scene.

This group of impressionists broke all the rules and did the complete opposite in every way. Instead, this fresh artist used a full spectrum pallet which means no black and brown.

They only focused on using light, nature colours, white as the background and did not blend colours in an attempt to make the painting more vibrant and interesting.

The impressionists came together in Paris, Batignolles, a place where people who had flair in art would gather. Artist like Claudes Monet, famous for landscape painting, came along with other famous artist like Paule Lezanne, Camille Pissaro and Alfred Sisley.

Together they went against the approval of the Academie. Their group was then called "Sociate Anonyme des artistes" with a purpose to allow artist to go by their own rules and not to worry about the "interference of a jury".

Edouard Manet's, one of the impressionists, artwork. His painting was a departure from the rules.

The rules said: show no brushstrokes yet the impressionists flaunted theirs. The rules said: paint indoors, in a studio but the impressionists took their rainbow palettes and canvases into the open air and painted from real life.

 Pablo Picasso.
A master of art at the age of 15.
Great sculptor too.
(Died at age 91)

He was well-known for his love on expanding numerous art forms. In 1907, Pablo broke all the rules that those 'artistically right' people learned in the art academy.

He started and created an entirely new forms of art. He disposed of three-dimensional perspective, abandoned harmonious proportion, used distortion and borrowed from the art of primitive culture.

Even a French critic slammed him with a harsh comment that Pablo would one day commit suicide for the shame he had brought on the art eestablishment.

Clearly shown in the paintings above, Pablo wanted to portray his fear for women through the knife-like shape of the women's figure.

Pablo had left a poignant memory in the art industry and he would always be remembered. Afterall, Pablo only wanted to show everyone that they can do whatever they want without having the fear of being judged. He had left us with a strong, deep and inspirational quote which goes "Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist."

Samantha Lo (Sticker Lady)

 An inspirational local street artist.
Samantha Lo, aged 25.

She's a local street artist whom I strongly feel that she should get all due respect and recognition towards her determination to continually uphold the culture of our country.

 Rules she broke?

Circular stickers with singlish-influenced phrases (some in spray paint) were pasted and painted in public spaces like Maxwell Road and Robinson Road and other public properties in 2012. As a result, she had to serve 240 hours of community service.

When she was asked as of why she did those things, she answered willingly that she wanted to show that Singaporeans are unique and our culture should be appreciated. This proactive attitude of hers does not come as a surprise.

Most people supported her act and pleaded for a lighter punishment for her. Soon, people started to accept her work as most of her work are now displayed at Sentosa(pictures above)tourist attraction.

When she was asked why she chose a tourist spot and what if the tourist dislike her work, she answered calmly that the objective is to be proud of the Singapore's culture and she directed a question back to them, "Why should we adjust for them?"

Habit

"Wearing my earpiece when I'm alone."

I don't engage in a conversation that well. Perhaps this is one of the reason how such habit stick to me for so long. When I'm alone, I don't like having interactions with people. So, by wearing a earpiece, I hope that people would actually mind their own business.

I came up with solution to stop this habit by asking several people. A few people urge me to stop as I might lose concentration to important events happening.

However when I started to stop such habit, somehow I am a more observant person. For instance, I care more about the ongoing things around me. I notice interesting landmarks when I'm on my way to my destination. Apart from it, I am also able to be aware of certain significant events that is occuring at the particular time.

Afterall, leaving a habit did do me good. It raise a benefit for myself which make myself an even better person.
